“I Was Hiding in Kiambu” – Raphael Tuju Reappears After Alleged Abduction Scare
Raphael Tuju resurfaces after a weekend disappearance, claiming he went into hiding in Kiambu after being trailed. The incident has sparked DCI investigations and raised concerns over alleged abduction threats and ongoing legal battles.
Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has resurfaced after a dramatic weekend disappearance, revealing that he had gone into hiding in Kiambu after suspecting he was being trailed by unknown individuals.
Tuju, who had been reported missing on Saturday alongside his driver, made a public appearance at his home on Monday, easing fears that had sparked a high-level investigation by authorities.
Disappearance Sparks Alarm
According to his family, Tuju vanished while en route to a scheduled radio interview. His vehicle was later found abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Karen, raising immediate concerns over a possible abduction.
The incident prompted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to launch investigations, treating the case as potentially serious given Tuju’s political stature and ongoing legal battles.
“I Was Being Trailed”
Breaking his silence, Tuju claimed he had noticed suspicious individuals following him in a numberless Land Cruiser, prompting him to take evasive action.
“I branched into Nandi Road; they were not able to branch in… it meant that they had to turn or go round to follow me. That is how I lost them,” he explained.
He later abandoned his vehicle and went into hiding, eventually finding refuge with a family in Kiambu.
“I want to thank a family in Kiambu… they gave me shelter until past midnight when I was able to return home,” he added.
Political Reactions and Abduction Claims
At Tuju’s residence, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka raised alarm over what he termed an “abduction squad in town,” suggesting the incident could point to a broader security concern.
The claims have intensified public debate around safety, surveillance, and alleged intimidation of high-profile individuals.
DCI Probe Hits a Roadblock
While investigations were underway, the DCI expressed frustration after being denied access to Tuju’s residence along Mwitu Drive—an area they believed could hold crucial evidence.
In a statement, the agency urged full cooperation from all parties, emphasizing the need for unrestricted access to ensure a thorough probe.
Legal Battles in the Background
Tuju’s disappearance comes against the backdrop of a high-stakes court battle over the ownership of Dari Business Park in Karen.
The dispute involves an alleged failure to repay a KSh 1.9 billion loan borrowed from the East African Development Bank in 2015. The contested properties include Entim Sidai Wellness Sanctuary, Tamarind Karen, and Dari Business Park.
In a recent letter to Inspector General Douglas Kanja, Tuju accused police of unlawfully occupying the business park, claiming that over 100 officers raided the premises without a court order and remained stationed there for days.
More Questions Than Answers
While Tuju’s reappearance has eased immediate fears, his account has opened up new questions about the nature of the alleged surveillance and the broader context surrounding the incident.
Authorities are yet to confirm whether investigations will continue or be scaled down following his explanation.
