HISTORIC FIRST: Sarah Mullally to Become First Female Archbishop of Canterbury

Dame Sarah Mullally is set to make history as she is enthroned as the first female leader of the Church of England at Canterbury Cathedral. Speaking ahead of the service, she told the BBC that the ceremony would prominently feature women’s voices throughout. The Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales will attend on behalf of King Charles III, joining a congregation of about 2,000 guests. Notably, nurses and carers from Canterbury have been invited in recognition of Mullally’s distinguished background in nursing, reflecting her commitment to service and community.
